GI CHUL CHOE

Gi Chul Choe is a landscape architectural and urban designer currently based in New York City. He holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Forestry and Landscape Architecture from Konkuk University in Seoul. Gi Chul’s professional journey spans globally recognized firms and academic institutions, including his current role at James Corner Field Operations, where he contributes to high-profile urban and landscape projects.

With a passion for integrating speculative design and post-occupancy analysis, Gi Chul’s work explores the intersection of environmental systems, public realm innovation, and data-driven design methodologies. His experience ranges from research and teaching at the University of Pennsylvania to design roles at leading firms in Seoul and Philadelphia.

Gi Chul has been recognized with numerous awards, including the ASLA Student Honor Award, the Ian L. McHarg Prize, and as a winner of the 2021 CBDX: Cities for All Competition. His skills span from parametric modeling and visualization to digital storytelling and environmental analysis, utilizing platforms like Rhino, Grasshopper, Lumion, and the Adobe Creative Suite. Through his design practice, Gi Chul seeks to challenge conventional design approaches and envision transformative, resilient landscapes for the future.
